Weight Control

Weight Control Exercise

Weight control is one of the most difficult problems for women to manage. We live in a paradigm where a woman is thought to be beautiful and sexy if she has big breasts, a small waist, and a tight curvy bottom. Have you seen a lot of real women who fit this mold – especially after they have had life’s most incredible experience of giving birth to new life? Real women have curves and curves are beautiful! However, being severely overweight or obese puts you at increased risk for the following health conditions:

  • Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
  • Cardiometabolic syndrome (metabolic abnormalities that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes)
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Dyslipidemia
  • Gall bladder disease
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Hypertension
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes

Therefore, rather than having a goal of being skinny, the goal is to be healthy and fit. At the Health and Healing Center, we help you learn lifestyle and eating habits to promote health with the following side effects: vibrant energy, restful sleep, beautiful complexion and normal body composition – without starvation and deprivation.

As most women can attest, weight control is no easy task! And, to add insult to injury, as our bodies age our metabolism slows, making it even more difficult to burn more calories than we take in. After menopause, women face a whole new set of issues with the loss of estrogen and serotonin and the predominance of testosterone, which can encourage insulin resistance and abdominal weight gain. We all know we can burn fat tissue with increased exercise, but there are few of us who have the time to devote to traditional exercise regimes that guarantee success. In addition to sedentary lifestyles, a myriad of conditions cause our bodies to gain body fat. These include:

  • Hormonal imbalance (including thyroid dysfunction and insulin resistance)
  • Adrenal imbalance (chronic stress)
  • Neurotransmitter imbalance
  • Impaired detoxification
  • Digestive imbalance
  • Systemic inflammation
